Why quarterbacks and musicians need third down conversions

With SuperBowl 2015 a couple weeks away, there is an interesting comparison and answer as to why quarterbacks and musicians need third down conversions.

If a quarterback doesn’t make that conversion, they will either have to punt or go for a field goal. It doesn’t matter how many yards they have driven down the field, how long they have had the ball or how many plays have taken place to get them there, if they don’t make that conversion, they can lose all that forward motion.

In the same way with musicians, the conversion from a number, a visitor, a like or an engagement is much more important than the follow or like click.

Think about it like a football game. You have done all this work to drive down the field or in this case, get fans to come to your website or your social media pages, but if you don’t press through for the conversion, all you have in a number and you have to punt the ball.

Your music industry marketing in the end, has to be about creating the conversions and not just the numbers of likes or follows.

Just like a football game, you could run a whole bunch of plays, just like in music, you gain a whole bunch of likes, but if you don’t make that third down conversion, you are punting that ball away.

Why quarterbacks and musicians need third down conversions… Well, Think about how you can keep those new likes engaged with content that is enticing but also interesting for the existing fan. Include a call to action about your products, your music and your merch, but after you have posted the blog, the video, the picture or something to engage before the sell.

If all you do is sell and plug the product, you are pushing away the audience. If you engage your audience, keep in mind that they want to hear about other things than just your pitch for them to buy, you are heading in to the fourth quarter with a solid lead.

Why quarterbacks and musicians need third down conversions

With out the conversion in a football game, you lose the ball, with out the conversion in the music industry marketing game, you lose the fan and all you are left with are numbers that don’t mean anything.

You can run the ball for hundreds of yards in a game but if you don’t don’t convert those yards to points, you aren’t going to win the game. In the same way, if you have thousands of likes with no conversion to sales or attendance at shows, then all you have are numbers.

And by the way, Go New England Patriots!!!!
